PC girls overtake Jeeps

LEOPOLD—Perry Central hit a series of clutch shots late in the third and early in the fourth quarter to beat Northeast Dubois 38-35 in girls basketball Saturday.

The Jeeps outscored Perry Central 14-2 in the first five minutes of the third quarter to take a 26-17 lead.

Then the Commodores began their comeback. Hilarie Hahus hit a three-pointer from the corner and Deidra Dickerson scored on a drive.

After another Perry Central basket, Dickerson hit a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter to put the Commodores ahead 27-26.

“It seemed like in this game we always had someone hit a shot right when we needed it,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson.

The Commodores hit 39.4 percent from the field and 10 of 12 free throws for 83.3 percent, with most of the free throws coming in the fourth quarter.

“That’s probably the best we’ve done on free throws all year,” said Bill Dickerson.

Katie Schwartz led Perry Central’s balanced scoring attack with nine points. Lavina Schwartz and Deidra Dickerson each added seven.

Dickerson and Hahus each grabbed six of the Commodores’ 22 rebounds.

Dickerson also had five assists and three steals. Rachael Rayford had four assists.

Perry Central improved to 12-6 while Northeast Dubois fell to 9-8.

Perry Central’s game at Rock Creek Christian Tuesday was snowed out and will not be rescheduled.

The Commodores will host Mitchell Saturday at 1 p.m.

Northeast Dubois won the junior varsity game 32-14.

Ashley Graves had six points, six rebounds and three blocks for Perry Central, 7-7.
