PC girls first, Tell City 2nd at North Harrison

RAMSEY - Tell City had three of the top 16 finishers but Perry Central had better grouping between its first and fifth runners as it won the North Harrison girls cross country invitational Thursday.

Perry Central scored 94 points to win the 19-team meet. Tell City, led by individual winner Sarah Goffinet in 19:46.4, placed second with 123 points.

Perry Central placed third in the 26-team boys meet behind Floyd Central and New Albany. Tell City finished sixth.

All five Perry Central scorers placed in the top 30 of 140 runners in the girls race.

Rachael Rayford led the Commodores, placing sixth in 20:34.6.

Other Perry Central scorers were Brianna Crockett, 18th in 21:29.6; Susan Schwartz, 20th in 21:38.1; Lavina Schwartz, 21st in 21:38.6; and Amy Schwartz, 30th in 22:08.2.

Also running for the Commodores were Robbi Thomas, 72nd in 23:41.6, and Katy Schwartz, 130th in 27:51.3.

Besides Goffinet, Tell City scorers were Tiffany Davis, 13th in 21:21.7; Andyn Rowe, 16th in 21:27.0; Brittany Waninger, 35th in 22:25.8; and Mariah Nix, 62nd in 23:25.7.

Erika Hauenstein, 91st in 24:56.7, was the Marksmen's sixth runner.

Perry Central had four finishers in the top 20 in the boys race. But Floyd Central and New Albany each had five in the top 28.

Jake Schwartz placed eighth in 16:59.2 to lead Perry Central. Michael Ernst was 12th in 17:09.0 and Ian Bashor 13th in 17:09.3.

Eric Scheiber, 20th in 17:21.8, and Neal Schwartz, 50th in 17:21.8, completed the Commodores' scoring.

Jacob Schwartz, 53rd in 18:28.5, and Kyle Schnell, 100th in 19:44.7, also ran for the Commodores.

Alex Fenn led Tell City, placing fifth in 16:48.5.

Other Marksman scorers were Jordan Alvey, 37th in 17:58.5; Nick Bower, 54th in 18:30.7; Dylan Kleemann, 60th in 18:35.9; and Jeremy Kellems, 71st in 18:56.6.

Justin Peter, 82nd in 19:14.2, and Justin Kleemann, 86th in 19:21.2, also ran for the Marksmen.

North Harrison star Tyler Byrne, who placed 21st in the state meet last year, won in 16:00.5.

Tell City placed second and Perry Central third among 16 teams in the junior varsity boys race.

Zach Wilson placed eighth in 19:00.1 to lead Tell City.

Other Tell City scorers were Andrew Dauby, 13th in 19:10.9; Darian Allen, 14th in 19:14.4; Devin McDaniel, 21st in 19:27.1; and Corey Henderson, 24th in 19:39.2.

Andrew Kimball placed ninth in 19:04.7 to lead Perry Central.

Other Perry Central scorers were Kyle Troesch, 15th in 19:17.1; Robert Wirthwein, 18th in 19:24.3; Sam Champion, 23rd in 19:38.8; and Noah Gatwood, 38th in 20:23.8.

Tell City and Perry Central will compete in the Perry-Spencer invitational at Perry Central Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
