LEOPOLD - Opponents' late-inning rallies beat Perry Central in baseball Wednesday and Thursday.

Southridge beat the Commodores 8-5 at Huntingburg Wednesday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 5-5 tie.

Perry Central led Crawford County 7-3 going into the seventh inning Thursday. But the Wolfpack rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to win the PLAC game 8-7.

Three hits, three walks and two errors fueled that rally.

Perry Central left-hander Drew Schroer gave up the tying runs and was then relieved by Seth Raetz, who took the loss.

Schroer had pitched the previous two innings and "looked good," said Perry Central Coach Ty Guillaume. "Then he got to the top of their order and they started hitting him."

Wes Linette, in his pitching season debut, went the first four innings for Perry Central, walking none and striking out six.

He also went 3 for 3 with a homer and a double to lead the Commodores' 10-hit attack.

Austin Hauser also had three hits and Bo Gibson hit a two-run homer.

Gibson had three RBIs and Linette and Michael Jarboe each added two.

A bright spot for Commodore batters in both games was "we did a lot better putting the ball in play," said Guillaume.

They struck out only five times against Southridge and four times against Crawford County.

Ryan Hanan went 2 for 4 to lead Perry Central hitters against Southridge.

No Commodore had more than one RBI that game.

Tony Backer pitched the first five innings for Perry Central to take the loss. He struck out four and walked three.

Perry Central, 1-5, will visit Cannelton for a doubleheader today at 4:30 p.m.
