DUBOIS—Clutch hitting and complete-game pitching performances helped Perry Central win both its baseball games in the Coaches Against Cancer Classic Saturday.

The Commodores beat Barr-Reeve 7-1 in the first game as Tony Backer pitched a five-hitter. He walked four, struck out seven, and gave up no earned runs.

Ian Hahus went 3 for 4 to lead Perry Central’s 12-hit attack.

Austin Hauser, Backer and Patrick Van Winkle each added two hits for the Commodores.

Hahus and Clint Cassidy each drove in two runs.

Perry Central beat Northeast Dubois 5-4 in its second game with a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning.

Singles by T.J. Lamon and Cassidy, four walks, an RBI grounder by Ryan Hanan, and a throwing error fueled that rally.

Hanan went 3 for 4 that game. Cassidy added two hits and Van Winkle drove in two runs.

Andrew Harpenau pitched a six-hitter for the win, giving up just two earned runs. He walked four and struck out two.

The Commodores also beat Boonville 11-7 in a home game Tuesday.

They had 10 hits that game, including three doubles and a triple in a four-run second inning.

Clint Schank hit a double that inning and added a two-run homer over the left-field fence in the third inning.

Hahus had a double and a single that game and Lamon drove in two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Stephen Hayes relieved Cassidy in the fourth inning and earned his first varsity win. He gave up only one hit and no runs in four innings, walked two, and struck out three.

“He’s got movement on his fastball—it’s kind of a cut fastball,” said Perry Central Coach Gary Hanan. “And he got ahead of the hitters.”

Perry Central, 5-5 and on a four-game winning streak, will visit Mitchell for a key PLAC game Monday at 5 p.m.
