PERRY COUNTY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 and its ladies auxiliary announce this year’s Patriots Pen essay-writing contest.
Students in sixth through eighth grades are eligible for the contest. Home-schooled students are encouraged to enter as well.
This contest gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy with the prospect of winning U.S. savings bonds. The top national prize is a $10,000 U.S. savings bond.
This year’s topic is “What patriotism means to me.”
Essays must be 300 to 400 words in length, must be original and typed with no added color or art.
Deadline for students is Nov. 1. Essays can be dropped off at the VFW post.
