Patoka Lake special events begin Friday

PATOKA LAKE - Patoka Lake will hold its annual Autumn Getaway Weekend Friday and Saturday.

Friday enjoy "friendship stew" at the modern campgrounds center shelterhouse. Bring canned goods to add to the soup at 5 p.m. and bring tableware, preferred drinks and snack items for vegetable soup at 7 p.m.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday entertainment includes crafts, games and activities for all ages.

Bring a white T-shirt for tie dying. Look for the tents by the playground near the modern campgrounds gatehouse. At 10 a.m. Janet Eger, district forester, will lead a forest walk.

Sign up for the 6th annual Dutch Oven Cooking Competition begins at noon. With creative flair, Dutch ovens and supplies create a dish by 3:30 p.m. to be judged as well as tasted by the public.

From noon to 4 p.m., visit Lynn Krodel and Smokey Bear and a close-up look at an antique pumper fire truck. At 1 p.m., join Tom Park as he shares tips and techniques to fly fishing at the Kids Fishing Pond.

Other events include insect bingo at 1 p.m. and a Snakes of Indiana presentation at 2 p.m.

Bring your pets, dressed and in costume if you wish for the annual pet parade at 5 p.m. Campsites should be decorated by 5 p.m. for the evening events and decorating contest.

Campers 12 years of age and under are invited to trick or treat from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Experience an evening program Creatures of the Night at 8 p.m. with a few surprises at the modern campgrounds center shelterhouse.
