PERRY COUNTY - The Perry County Parks and Recreation Department will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday to celebrate the start of construction of the Eagles Bluff Welcome Center Project.

"We've been working for this day for over seven years," said Dan Adams, director of the Perry County Parks Department.

"This project is a community - with a 'big C' - effort," said Ed Ransom, president of the Perry County Parks and Recreation Department Board of Directors. "We have received help from so many people along the way, from the Perry County Commissioners and Council, the state of Indiana and the federal government."

The Eagles Bluff Project will enable the Perry County Parks and Recreation Department to open the Overlook Park daily for the enjoyment of Perry County's residents and visitors. This project will install water, electrical and sewer service, rehabilitate the access road and parking lot, construct a restroom and travel-literature distribution building and rehabilitate the observation deck.

The project is funded through the Federal Highway Administration Transportation Enhancements Program that is administered through the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The local share is funded by county funds and funds contributed by the Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Edgar and Lucile Schergens Foundation.

The civil engineers for the project are Bernardin Lochmueller and Associates; the building was designed by Carl Conner of Conner and Associates, both of Evansville.

The general contractor on the project is Craftsman Construction of Huntingburg.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The ceremony will be canceled if icing conditions occur.
