Osborne, Crawford advance to regional

NEWBURGH—Two Tell Citians qualified for the regional but none won titles in the 10-team Castle wrestling sectional Saturday.

Tell City scored 51 points. Sectional newcomer Reitz won with 192.
Tell City sophomore Cody Osborne placed second in the 285-pound weight class.
A No. 1 seed, Osborne had a first-round bye. He then pinned Logan Boehm of Reitz in 1:00 and Kale McCormick of Castle in 0:35 but got pinned by Terrance Kyles of Harrison in 4:56 in the finals.
Osborne had beaten Kyles earlier in the season.
The top four in each weight class qualified for the regional. Kain Crawford, one of only two seniors on Tell City’s roster, was not seeded in the top four but placed fourth in the 152 weight class to also qualify.
“He wrestled well,” said Tell City Coach Joe Litherland. “He wrestled like a senior all day.”
Crawford pinned Caleb Rush of South Spencer in 4:26 before losing 8-5 to Will Vanhook of Reitz.
Crawford then pinned Ben Hodges of Harrison in 1:52 and decisioned Knowah Rodgers of Heritage Hills 9-5 before losing to Vanhook again 7-6.
Tell City freshman Aubrey Craig (106 pounds) and sophomore Mason Waninger (113) were No. 4 seeds but placed fifth in their weight classes.
Craig won by forfeit but got pinned by Christian McNett of Harrison in 2:25 and by Jason Davis of South Spencer in 1:45.
Craig then pinned T.J. Oakley of Castle in 1:59 for fifth.
Waninger lost to Noah Keller of Mount Vernon 4-1 but beat Owen Ninke of Heritage Hills 12-4 before losing to Jacob Brown of Castle 7-0.
Waninger then pinned Tommy Whitehouse of Boonville in 1:54 for fifth.
No other Tell City wrestler placed in the top six.
Castle will host the regional Saturday at 9 a.m. It pairs qualifiers from the Castle sectional against ones from the Evansville Central sectional.
