CANNELTON - Cannelton had trouble making good returns in a 25-7, 25-15, 25-9 volleyball loss to Orleans Thursday.
The Bulldogs often were unable to set up their bump-set-spike attack. And when they did make spikes, only two of them went for kills - one apiece by Sarah Powers and Shy May.
Cannelton pulled within 21-14 in the second game as Jaci Garrett served a point.
But Orleans then forced a side out and served the next two points to build its lead back to 10.
Freshman Sammie James served four points, including one ace, to lead Cannelton for the match.
Nakaa Myers made 15 sets. Powers made four spikes and Hannah Baur, Myers and May each added three.
Tora Walls made two blocks.
Orleans won the junior varsity match 25-12, 24-26, 15-8.
Myers served nine points for Cannelton and made seven sets and five spikes. Walls added five points, including two aces.
Brooke Powers made six good spikes, including one kill.
Cannelton, 0-4 in varsity and 1-3 in JV, will host Whitesville Trinity Thursday at 6 p.m.
