CANNELTON—Orleans outrebounded Cannelton 47-17 to beat the Bulldogs 68-34 in girls basketball Thursday.
Orleans grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and scored on many of them. Only six of its 28 field goals came from outside the lane.
“They were a little bit bigger than us, but nothing a block-out can’t take care of,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett.
“And they got some easy layups because we can’t step over and stop the ball. We chase our man, but there’s no help defense at all.
“And they had several fast breaks.”
Orleans outshot Cannelton from the field 50.0 percent to 25.0 percent.
Mikah Hemmings led the Bulldogs with 21 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
She hit only 6 of 24 from the field but broke out of her free-throw shooting slump, making 9 of 9.
Melissa Clausen added nine points.
Shelby Noble led 5-6 Orleans with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Cannelton, 2-10, will host Cloverport Tuesday at 6 p.m.
