VINCENNES - The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of upcoming lane restrictions on bridges exiting into other states.

Each year INDOT joins forces with the transportation departments of the states of Illinois and Kentucky to review the structures.

These inspections are conducted for long range planning strategies for maintenance of the bridges. Routine and in-depth inspections are conducted at other times in the year, on a bi-annual basis to check the structural integrity of bridges.

Specially trained engineers and consultants are utilized for these inspections. The Bob Cummings Lincoln Trail Bridge will be inspected Tuesday, Sept. 23.

One lane will be closed to set up equipment and allow inspections to take place, while one lane will remain open to motorists. Traffic will be maintained by a flag person on each end of the bridge.

Restrictions will begin as early as 8 a.m. local time and can last until dusk. Inspections will not take place during inclement weather and the schedule will be pushed back accordingly. INDOT encourages motorists to be aware of work taking place in the area and to proceed with caution while traveling.
