TELL CITY—North Posey out-gained Tell City in rushing and passing, defeating the Marksmen 42-20 in PAC football Friday.
North Posey scored on three of its first four possessions, racing to a 21-point lead in the first half.
The Vikings ran the ball eight times for 65 yards on their first drive, with Wes Harness scoring the touchdown on a 23-yard run.
Tell City lost a total of 2 yards on its first three plays and had to punt from its own 18-yard line.
North Posey started its ensuing drive at the 50. Harness capped that drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.
The Vikings fumbled on their third possession and Trevor Zuelly recovered it for Tell City.
But the Vikings scored on their next possession on a 2-yard quarterback sneak by Alec Werry to go up 21-0.
With 6:28 left in the second quarter Tell City, started a 12-play 80-yard drive. Elliott Brown carried the ball on 10 of the plays for a total of 72 yards. He carried the last seven times on the drive for 25 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown run up the middle.
Tell City Coach Ryan George said, “It was a goal to score on the first drive of the second half, like we had done in the last three games. That would have cut the score to 21-14. We had a good drive going, then it stalled and we ended up turning the ball over on downs."
Brown carried 25 times on the night for 187 yards.
Harness rushed for 152 yards on 20 carries for North Posey.
“I was disappointed in our linebacker play,” said George. “We didn’t step up and defend some of those things we simulated in practice. He’s (Harkness) a good running back. We just have to step up and stop plays.”
The Marksmen received the kickoff to start the second half. They had a nine-play drive end on a punt from the Viking 47 yard line.
North Posey took over at its 22-yard line and started running and throwing the ball.
With 3:09 left in the third quarter from the Marksmen’s 31, a roughing the passer penalty against Tell City moved the ball to the 16.Two plays later Harness scored his third of four touchdowns in the game.
On the Marksmen’s next possession they faced a second down and 6 from their own 30-yard line. Brown took the handoff around the left side and outran the defense for a 70-yard touchdown.
The Vikings scored on their next possession and again in the fourth quarter.
After the Vikings’ last score, Tell City’s Reese Miller fielded a bouncing kickoff and raced 90 yards down the right side line for a touchdown. “Reese did a good job on the return,” said George.
Tell City dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the PAC. North Posey improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Tell City will host Gibson Southern Friday at 7 p.m.
