CLARKSVILLE—Perry Central’s Miranda Claise pitched a no-hitter for six innings but Providence scored four runs in the next two innings to edge the Commodores 4-3 in a season-opening girls softball game Monday.
Jordyn Stengel hit a double as the Generals, ranked No. 8 in the state in Class 2A, rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.
Two singles and an error also fueled that rally.
Stengel doubled again to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Perry Central scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third. Lexi Aders drove in a run in each of those innings, including with a double in the fourth.
She went 2 for 3 and Autumn Lain went 2 for 4 to lead Perry Central’s seven-hit attack.
“The top of our order didn’t hit well,” said Perry Central Coach Mark Rothgerber. “When they get it together, we’ll be fine.”
Claise pitched a complete game to take the loss. She gave up six hits and no walks and struck out four.
Perry Central will visit Orleans for a PLAC game today at 5 p.m.
