A special Mass Monday served as formal introduction to the Tell City Deanery for newly installed Indianapolis Archbishop Joseph Tobin. He joined priests of the area in celebrating Mass at St. Paul’s Church. Tobin was appointed to the position Oct. 18 by Pope Benedict XVI and was installed Dec. 3. The 60-year-old Detroit native succeeded Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, who resigned in September due to health reasons. Tobin was most recently archbishop secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. Tobin said he looked forward to meeting the people of southern and central Indiana. Earlier in the day he visited Saint Meinrad Archabbey. Right, Tobin extends a blessing after Mass. Top photo, he greets Judy Hagedorn and her daughter, JoAnn Smith, in the parish hall. More photos are posted at www.perrycounty news.com.
