NEW ALBANY - New Albany won eight consecutive matches in the middle weights and beat Tell City 45-27 in wrestling Thursday.
"Where we're normally pretty strong, they were stronger," said Tell City Coach Joe Litherland. "They've got five kids that are tougher than nails.
"They had five kids who placed in the Mater Dei Classic, so we knew it was going to be a tough match."
The Marksmen also wrestled without several regular starters.
Keith Patrick, their 119-pound starter, is expected to be sidelined another week with a groin injury.
Eric Sabelhaus (145) is set to undergo surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. And Dustin Gould (189) has moved to Jasper.
Justin Kleemann, Tell City's usual starter at 152, did not make weight, so the Marksmen forfeited that match.
Kleemann did wrestle at 160 and led most of the match before losing 4-3 on a takedown with seven seconds left.
Tell City did score four pins, by A.J. Flynn (103), Neal Goffinet (112), Dylan Froehlich (215) and Greg Batie (heavyweight).
Flynn, Froehlich and Batie each disposed of his opponent in the first period.
Matt Leistner was the Marksmen's only other winner, beating Zach Faith 9-2 in the 171-pound match.
Tell City, 12-7, will wrestle in a four-team round-robin at Reitz Saturday at 9 a.m.
