TELL CITY - A Tell City musician profiled in an April 3 News story has earned the right to compete in the semifinal round of USIdol, a talent competition to be conducted April 18 and 19 at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville.

Cameron Hall, who also performs under the names J. Cameron and James Hall, provided a letter from contest official Pam Doerter, who said nine semifinalists were selected from among 28 performers. Each was judged on originality, vocal performance and stage presence, she explained.

Semifinals will begin at 6 p.m. April 18 on an outdoor stage set up in the school's Valley Lot, also known as Lot K. Finals will begin at 5 p.m. the next day.

The seventh annual USIdol competition is part of the university's outdoor SpringFest celebration, which features 25 live bands, dance acts and drum lines, according to Tim Buecher, director of the event. The public is encouraged to attend, he said, adding no admission is charged for attending the festival or to see the live entertainment, including USIdol.

Carnival-ride ticket prices range from $1.50 per ticket to $16 for an all-day ticket. Food booths will be available.
