Signs that have been landmarks along Tell Street for decades were removed March 29 after catching the eye of a Kentucky collector. The Frigid Whip sign that had stood since around 1950 was purchased by Cecil Whitaker of Pendleton, Ky. Curtis Cronin, who owns the small building that housed the former eatery, said the sign was beginning to deteriorate. He plans to turn the building into a gathering place for community groups. Since the Frigid Whip closed in the 1970s, the building has been used by a number of businesses, including a beauty shop. Whitaker also purchased two signs across the street that had stood in front of the former Tell Street Liquors.
