Monk professes solemn vows at Saint Meinrad

ST. MEINRAD – Brother Francis de Sales Wagner OSB professed solemn vows as a Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in a ceremony Jan. 25 in the Archabbey Church.


Wagner is a native of Findlay, Ohio, where he attended Liberty-Benton High School and was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1988.
After earning his degree, he worked at The Galion Inquirer in Galion, Ohio, until 1996, where he worked his way up from staff writer to managing editor. From 1996 to 1999, he worked at The News-Sun in Springfield, Ohio, as a copy editor, and from 1999 to 2006, he worked at The Blade in Toledo, Ohio, where he was a copy editor and wire editor.
He joined the monastery in 2007 and made his first profession of vows in January 2008. Wagner is a writer and associate editor in the publications division of Abbey Press, and is studying for a master’s degree from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He is also a conference presenter for the Benedictine oblate program and gives retreats to guests.
In professing solemn vows of obedience, fidelity to the monastic way of life and stability in the community at Saint Meinrad, he becomes a full and permanent member of the Benedictine community.
