LEOPOLD - Perry Central fought back from a 13-point halftime deficit to have a chance to tie in the final minute but lost to Mitchell 61-58 in PLAC girls basketball Saturday.
"We had some trouble with their 1-3-1 half-court trap in the first half," said Perry Central Coach Sarah Spindler. "Then we made some adjustments and handled it well the second half.
"Our guards played really well. We had Audra (Gehlhausen, who had missed five games with an injury) back and that gave us a little more depth at the guard position. I think that may have helped."
Perry Central had two chances to tie the score with a three-point basket in the final minute but missed both shots.
The Commodores hit 38.3 percent from the field overall, including 3 of 8 from three-point range.
