MITCHELL—Mitchell hit 60 percent from the field as o pound Perry Central 74-43 in PLAC boys basketball Saturday.

“When they (Mitchell) shot the ball, everyone was supposed to go to the boards,” said Perry Central Coach Matt Carter.

Instead, the Bluejackets grabbed missed Perry Central shots and threw baseball passes to Dwayne Eubanks at midcourt for consecutive layups to give Mitchell an early 4-0 lead.

Perry Central tied the score on two free throws by Reuben A. Schwartz and a basket by Alex Rogier. But after that it was all Mitchell.

The Bluejackets ran off the next 11 points to end the first quarter ahead 17-6.

They increased their lead to 41-21 by halftime.

With 3:45 left in the third quarter Carter pulled his starters because “they weren’t getting it done,” he said.  During the 4:15 they played that period, they made four free throws in six attempts.

Carter added, “I thought our bench played well until they got tired. They cut 10 points off the Mitchell lead.”

Rogier led the Commodores with eight points. Reserves Ryan Hanan and Austin Hauser each added seven.

Evan Sanders led Mitchell with 20 points and was one of four Bluejacket scorers in double figures.

Perry Central dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the PLAC. Mitchell improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Conference.

The Commodores will host Crawford County Friday at 7.
