BOONVILLE - Ted Metzger, a self-employed small-business owner and Warrick County resident, announced last month his candidacy as a Republican for Senate District 47, which includes Perry, Crawford, Dubois, Harrison, Spencer, Warrick and Washington counties.

"Our current legislators have lost their way and no longer represent the people of southern Indiana. For the last 10 years I've been fighting in the trenches on a local level as a community organizer and grassroots activist," Metzger said. "I am a conservative constitutionalist from the working class who believes it's time for our government to learn to live within its means. I believe Hoosiers are taxed enough already. I understand the importance of keeping the first and second amendments intact. I will work tirelessly to defend our family values, our traditions and our freedoms at the Statehouse."

Metzger is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a long-time member of the American Legion Post 200.

After his military duty, Metzger returned to school under the GI Bill, where he earned his associate's degree in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology.

He worked days as a technician and nights building his business, American Cleaning Services, which he has now owned and operated for the past 30 years. American Cleaning Services provides building services to major chain stores, office and medical buildings.

His grassroots efforts and staunch support of the Bill of Rights have earned Metzger the 'Defender of the Constitution Award from the executive committee of the National Rifle Association and recognition from the Institute for Legislative Action.

A southern Indiana native, Ted and Melissa, his wife of 36 years, reside in Boonville with their son.

Ted pledges to maintain his honesty, his integrity and his principles while in office and lead his fellow Republican legislators back to their conservative base.
