Merry Christmas in July from Santa Claus

-A A +A

In a town that keeps the spirit of Christmas alive and well 365 days a year, the holidays in Santa Claus offer an extraordinary time for reflection. My memories of Christmas are centered on traditions, those we cherish in our families, and those we hold dear as a town.

Since 1914, the town of Santa Claus has welcomed a blizzard of mail containing the wishes and dreams of children from all over the world. I remember my father, Jim Yellig, sitting at our dining room table sorting through stacks of letters to Santa. And I see the town pulling together every year, neighbors and friends serving as elves to ensure each child who writes a letter to Santa Claus receives a response.

The town of Santa Claus is a magical place, especially during December. The committee planning for the 2014 Santa Claus Christmas celebration needs your help. Our mission is to ensure the town continues to flourish as a destination for those seeking to experience the wonder of the holiday season. We would like to add new events to the celebration, and welcome new faces to participate in our traditions.

The committee would like to invite all Christmas enthusiasts, local residents, and businesses to a public meeting Tuesday, July 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Claus Museum and Village. Share your ideas, volunteer to help, and join us as we plan for a joyful Christmas celebration.

We need your help to make the 2014 Christmas celebration a success.
