TELL CITY - Calling out cowboys and cowgirls. Mechanical bull riding is returning to next week's Perry County 4-H Fair. The bucking beast, whose twists and turns humbled riders last year, is back for a Saturday-evening rodeo.

Sponsored by State Farm Insurance and C&S Food Marts, the rodeo begins at 6 p.m. July 12 with separate classes for riders ages 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15, 16 to 17 and 18 and over.

Entry fee is $5 per rider for ages 7 to 15 and $10 for older teens and adults. First-place prizes of $25 per class will be awarded in ages 7 to 15 and $50 in other classes. There is a separate adult class for women this year.

For those wanting to practice their riding or who simply want to try their skill, $5 bull rides will be offered Saturday starting at 2 p.m.

Children wanting to take part in the rodeo must have their parents' signatures on entry forms that can be picked up at the fairgrounds office or in the vicinity of bull-riding. Entry forms can also be obtained by calling Todd Dauby at 843-4187. Riders ages 7 to 15 must turn in entry forms by 5:30 p.m. the day of the rodeo and older teens and adults must submit their information by 7 p.m. Meetings for riders will be held before events. Each rider will be judged on two rides. Riders must stay on the bull for eight seconds to receive a score. For more information, call Dauby at 843-4187.
