CANNELTON - Morris "Smokey" Graves said after election results were announced Tuesday he "expected a close race because it was a good, straightforward campaign by both camps," a theme expressed by several victorious and unsuccessful candidates.
Graves earned 313, or 54.53 percent of the votes cast for Cannelton mayor. Incumbent Melvin McBrayer fell 52 votes shy, taking 45.47 percent of the 574 votes cast.
"It's a good feeling to win the second time out," Graves said in reference to an unsuccessful campaign four years ago. "That first time, it hurt."
