PERRY COUNTY - A May 1 Fun Day benefit at the county's 4-H fairgrounds will raise money to help an 11-old-boy battling liver cancer.

Tyler Zoglman, a fifth-grader at Perry Central Elementary School, has been diagnosed with hapatocellular carcinoma, a rare form of liver cancer. He has been undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments and underwent a 10-hour surgery to remove a 9-pound tumor.

A full day of events May 1 begins at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. Serving of chicken and pork-chop dinners starts at 11 a.m. with food catered by the New Boston Tavern.

There will be karaoke, kids activities, yard and bake sales and a raffle for eight quilts, including queen-sized ones. Signup for cornhole and horseshoe tourneys begins at 10 a.m. and an auction of autographed memorabilia begins at 5:30 p.m.

Items donated thus far include an autographed cookbook by Paula Deen, a football signed by Peyton Manning, various items signed by Dolly Parton, an autographed Toby Keith CD and photo, photo and T-shirt signed by Jeff Dunham's dolls, an autographed photo and media guide from University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari, an autographed photo from Duff from Ace of Cakes, a T-shirt from Charm City Cakes, autographed photos of John Travolta and Tony Hawk and autographed photo, hat and movie from Larry the Cable Guy.

Tyler can no longer attend school and effects of his treatments now require him to wear glasses and hearing aids.

"He has tubes in his body, must take pills and shots daily and is in need of transfusions to have enough strength to endure his treatments," his grandmother, Becky Paulin, said. "The disease is truly devastating, draining all resources, time, emotions and money."

Items are still being accepted for the May 1 auction. To donate items or for more information on the benefit, call Paulin at 547-6293. Items for the auction can also be mailed to Paulin at 1147 21st St., Tell City, IN 47586. A benefit fund has been established at Fifth Third Bank and all donations will go toward medical expenses.
