EVANSVILLE—“We gave up too many turnovers,” Tell City Coach John Lyons said of the Marksmen’s 54-30 girls basketball loss to Mater Dei Saturday.

Mater Dei pressed at times, “but we turned the ball over in the halfcourt too,” said Lyons. “They were quick and they anticipated the pass well.”

Freshman center McKenzie Hayes led Tell City with nine points on three field goals and 3 of 7 free-throw shooting.

“We just couldn’t get the ball to her,” said Lyons. “They would come from the back side to help and steal the entry pass to her.”

Rebounding and shooting statistics were not available.

Tell City, 0-11, will play Gibson Southern at Owensville Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with the junior varsity game at 11 a.m.
