TELL CITY - Jesse Stowe had 21 points and nine rebounds as Tell City beat Perry Central 53-45 to win a junior varsity boys basketball tourney Saturday.
Stowe hit 9 of 13 shots from the field and 3 of 3 free throws.
Jason Hackbarth added 14 points, making several strong drives to the basket.
Ben Stiles grabbed five rebounds and Jordan Rhodes had six assists for Tell City.
Reuben Y. Schwartz led Perry Central with 13 points. Alex Rogier added 12 points and six rebounds.
"Tell City has a solid team and we were really tired," said Perry Central Coach Jeff Litherland. "My starters had played most of the game Friday and the entire game vs. Heritage Hills just an hour before this game.
"We had plenty of chances but we struggled from the field. We were 17 for 46."
Tell City beat South Spencer 48-31 in the first round of the four-team tourney.
The Marksmen led only 13-12 after one quarter but "did a much better job defending their jump shots and taking care of the basketball the last three quarters," said Tell City Coach Jeff Wrye.
They also hit free throws, going 11 for 12 at the line.
Hackbarth scored 12 points that game and Rhodes added 11.
Rhodes had five assists and no turnovers. "As much as he has to handle the ball, that is a fantastic stat," said Wrye.
Stowe grabbed seven rebounds and Alex Cole added five.
Perry Central beat Heritage Hills 52-39 in the other first-round game as Clint Cassidy scored 20 points and Schwartz, Ian Hahus and Rogier each added 10.
Rogier grabbed seven rebounds.
"This was the best game we've played all year," said Litherland. "Heritage Hills had beaten Castle by 15 Friday night and they were 6-foot-7 and 6-6 on the inside.
Tell City and Perry Central are each 5-2 on the season.
