Marksmen win 2 of 3

HAWESVILLE, Ky.—Tell City outrebounded Hancock County 47-30 to beat the Hornets 38-33 in girls basketball Monday.
Kassidie Hayes grabbed 19 rebounds, Taylor Gentry 10, and Celina Snyder nine for the Marksmen.
Hayes also blocked seven shots.
Still Tell City trailed 20-19 entering the fourth quarter.
But Logan Flannagan scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to help the Marksmen come from behind.
She hit 5 of 6 free throws in that period.
“Logan really stepped up in the fourth quarter,” said Tell City Coach John Hayes.
He added, “I was proud of our effort tonight because we out-scrapped them on their home court.
“I thought we played harder than we did Saturday.”
Tori Kirk led Hancock County with nine points and eight rebounds.
Tell City lost at Gibson Southern 74-25 in a PAC game Saturday.
“Gibson Southern is really good,” said Hayes. The Titans improved to 8-4 overall, 2-0 in the conference.
Freshman forward Emma Kohnert scored seven points to lead Tell City, which fell to 1-2 in the conference.
Maddie Raley, a 6-foot sophomore center, led Gibson Southern with 21 points.
The Marksmen hit only 8 of 36 shots from the field for 22.2 percent.
Hayes grabbed 10 of Tell City’s 26 rebounds.
Hayes had 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots in Tell City’s 51-42 home win over South Central Tuesday.
Kohnert added 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, and Flannagan had 10 points and seven assists.
“As we did last night, we competed hard again,” said John Hayes. “We did a nice job moving the basketball against their man-to-man defense.
“I thought Emma, Logan and Kassie all played nice games.”
Senior guard Kelsey Miller led 5-10 South Central with 21 points.
Tell City, 6-7, will visit Boonville tonight at 7:30.
