TELL CITY - Tell City scored four runs in the second inning and held off a late rally by Hancock County to beat the Hornets 6-4 in baseball Friday.

Ryan Zuelly drew a walk to start the Marksmen's second-inning rally. He advanced to third base on Trent Gunn's single to left-center field.

After Gunn stole second base, both runners scored on Eric Henrickson's single up the middle.

One out later Henrickson scored on Tommy McCallister's triple into the left-center gap.

McCallister then scored on Cody Pfeifer's single to right.

Kyle Osborne added a key insurance run when he led off the third inning with a home run over the left-field fence.

Pfeifer, Tell City's starting pitcher, held the Hornets to one run on two hits the first five innings.

He began to tire in the fifth, though, walking three and giving up a double to Dustin Horn.

The Hornets did not score that inning, though, as they had a runner tagged out trying to steal home on what may have been a missed suicide squeeze attempt.

They scored three runs in the sixth inning, though, on three hits, a walk, a hit batsman, and Tell City's only error of the game.

The Marksmen used three pitchers to get through that inning. Henrickson, who finished that inning, also pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Pfeifer struck out six and walked six in 51?3 innings as he picked up the win.

"The first three innings he looked as well as he's looked all year," said Tell City Coach Phil DeSpain.

Pfeifer, Osborne and Gunn each had two of Tell City's nine hits.

Tell City lost at South Spencer 16-6 Wednesday as the Rebels pounded out 19 hits, including six doubles and a triple.

Tell City's seven hits were highlighted by Zuelly's solo homer, a triple by Henrickson, and a double by Gunn.

Michael DuPre, the first of three Tell City pitchers, took the loss. He walked three and struck out none in one-plus innings.

Tell City, 3-5, will host Evansville Central Tuesday at 5 p.m.
