Marksmen fall to Boonville

BOONVILLE - Tell City won in No. 1 and 2 singles but Boonville took the other matches to oust the Marksmen 3-2 in the girls tennis sectional semifinals Saturday.

Kathi Kassen shut out Ginny Wright 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

Thus even though the Marksmen lost, Kassen got to advance in the No. 1 singles tourney.

Tell City sophomore Bethany Peter also won handily in No. 2 singles, beating Marissa Hodges 6-2, 6-1.

Each of the other matches had at least one close set.

Boonville's Sarah Foley held off Stephani Wrye 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.

Erika Kattterjohn and Chloe Lipking beat Alisha Patton and Trish Solbrig 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles.

Fancy Conner and Amy Ward beat Jennifer McDaniel and Kari Gladish 6-2, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles.

Tell City finished the season 5-9.

Castle beat Boonville 4-1 in the finals to win the sectional for the 12th year in a row.

Harrison's Sarah Buedel beat Kassen 6-3, 6-2 in the singles tourney Tuesday.
