MARENGO—Caleb Sherry placed ninth in the junior race to lead Tell City to sixth among 25 teams in Crawford County’s boys cross country invitational Saturday.
The format featured separate races for each class, with the top 15 in each class receiving medals. Then the top five times from each team—regardless of class—were added together for its team score.
Tell City’s top five compiled a time of 91 minutes, 2 seconds. Bedford-North Lawrence won with 84:36.
Tell City was 10th among 19 complete teams in the girls race.
Perry Central, which did not run its top five runners of either gender, finished 16th in the girls race and did not have a team score in the boys race.
Sherry ran the junior boys race in 17:53. Teammate Brook Smith was 12th in 18:06 and Cameron Sherry 15th in 18:23.
Brandon Gaynor placed 20th in the senior race in 18:05 and Travis Robinson was 26th in 19:03.
Donovan Ingle was 12th in the sophomore race in 18:35 and Zach Ziegelgruber 28th in 19:36. Perry Central’s Lance Elmer was 27th in 19:26.
Tell City had three runners in the top 25 in the freshman race: Reed Goffinet 11th in 19:10, Eli Reed 18th in 19:26, and Clayton Byrne 24th in 19:45.
Tell City’s Mariah Blake placed 10th in the sophomore girls race in 22:10 and Perry Central’s Marie Schwartz was 12th in 22:16. Perry Central Coach Jason Barnett said that was Schwartz’s “best race of the year by far.”
Tell City’s Addie Terry was also in the top 25 in that race, taking 23rd in 23:42.
Tell City’s Hailey Carman placed ninth in the freshman race in 22:42 and teammate Kari Hawkins was 20th in 24:17.
For Perry Central freshmen Verna Schwartz was 14th in 23:19 and Skylar Parker was 19th in 24:03.
Tell City and Perry Central will run at Bedford-North Lawrence Saturday at 8 a.m.
