EVANSVILLE - Greg Batie went 8-1 to lead Tell City to a 4-5 record in Harrison's 10-team, round-robin wrestling tourney last weekend.
The Marksmen beat Forest Park 39-27, South Spencer 57-24, Heritage Hills 36-21, and Harrison 51-28.
They lost to Union County 42-28, Southridge 45-12, Trinity 60-12, Reitz 61-6, and Evansville Memorial 57-9.
Union County is ranked No. 1 and Trinity No. 2 in Kentucky, and Reitz and Memorial are ranked in the top 20 in Indiana.
But the Marksmen had beaten Southridge 46-20 10 days earlier. They had a different lineup Friday, though, due to sickness and injury.
A.J. Flynn got hurt earlier in the tourney, Eric Sabelhaus was already sidelined with an injury, and Keith Patrick was sick.
Still Tell City Coach Joe Litherland said, "That was the only match I was disappointed in. They just wrestled well and we didn't."
Batie, competing in the heavyweight division, scored five pins and lost only to Forest Park star Hopf.
Batie raised his season record to 16-1.
"He really wrestled well," said Tell City Coach Joe Litherland. "His positioning was great."
Dylan Froehlich, competing in the 215-pound division, went 7-2 with four pins.
Joey Woznicki went 6-3 with three pins in the 130 class.
Justin Kleemann, 5-4 with one pin at 152 and 160, was the only other Marksman with a winning record.
Chris Martin went 4-4 with two pins in the 140 class.
Tell City, 12-6, will compete in a tourney at Mater Dei Dec. 28-29.
Andy Kast, a 125-pounder who has been sidelined all season with injuries from a car wreck, has been cleared to wrestle starting in that tourney.
