TELL CITY—Tell City held off a late rally by Boonville to beat the Pioneers 41-37 in girls basketball Thursday.

The Marksmen built a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

“Then for some reason we went on a shooting spree, taking some really quick, bad shots,” said Tell City Coach John Lyons. “And they hit three threes in the fourth quarter (two by reserve Kaitlyn Torres).”

The Pioneers eventually cut Tell City’s lead to one.

The Marksmen hit only 12 of 22 free throws for the game. But they hit enough at the end to hold on, with center McKenzie Hayes hitting her last four after missing four earlier.

Hayes finished with a game-high 16 points, hitting 6 of 13 from the field.

She also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Logan Flannagan added eight points and led the Marksmen in rebounds with 10. Hannah Schaefer had five assists.

The Marksmen hit 35.9 percent (14 of 39) from the field, including just 1 of 7 from three-point range. They committed 17 turnovers.

Torres, a 5-foot-7 sophomore, led 3-11 Boonville with 11 points.

Tell City, 8-7, will visit Perry Central tonight at 7:30.
