TOBINSPORT – Marie Harris, 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.
She was born in Millstone May 12, 1925, daughter of the late Thomas Maurice Smith and Flora Louise (Daum) Smith.
Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Katherine Yaggi and Lucille Knaebel; her brothers, Kenneth and Maurice Smith and a great-granddaughter, Alexia Marie Neyenhaus.
A 1943 graduate of Cannelton High School, Marie married William Perry Harris Aug. 26, 1944, in Hawesville, Ky.
Together, they raised a family while farming several acres of ground in Tobinsport, for many years before Bill passed away in 1984.
Marie retired from General Electric in 1985 after 38 years of service and was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cannelton.
She enjoyed bowling and dancing, collecting antiques, flower gardening, traveling and cooking family dinners.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Flora Werne (Steve) of Fulda and Vevah Harris Tullis (Rick) of Evanston; sons Terry Harris (Traci) of Tobinsport and Maurice Harris of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren Jeremy Werne, Tammi Dowland, Tim Werne, Bobby Tullis, Robert Harris, Christina Neyenhaus, Beverly Harris Wilson, William “Billy” Harris and Michael Harris and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cannelton. Burial was in Simons Cemetery in Tobinsport.
Huber Funeral Home’s Tell City Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
