LEOPOLD – Perry Central’s boys cross country team made history in 2012 by claiming its first regional title and winning the Jasper sectional for the seventh year in a row.

The Commodores’ sectional-winning streak breaks the previous record of six in a row set by Tell City 1973-78. Their regional title was the school’s first ever in a sport other than football.
The Commodores beat runner-up Forest Park by 30 points in the sectional. Perry Central had three of the top five runners in the race, with Alex Newton placing second, Bryce Lain third, and Aaron Pierrard fifth.
Perry Central beat runner-up Borden by 12 points in the 10-team Crawford County regional. Newton placed fifth in it, Pierrard was eighth, and Lain 12th.
Perry Central also won the girls cross country sectional for the second time in three years. Perry Central senior Cathryn Peter placed second in the sectional, third in the regional, and 12th in the Brown County semistate to qualify for the state meet as an individual for the third year in a row, becoming only the second Perry County cross country runner – boy or girl – to do so.
