Local United Way expands services to Crawford County

Nine-month effort pays off; campaign planned for fall

PERRY COUNTY - After 34 years of service to the residents of Perry County, United Way of Perry County is expanding its services to its neighbors in Crawford County.

Residents there have joined with the UWPC to schedule the first fundraising campaign of the United Way of Crawford County this fall. The campaign will help fund Crawford County health-and-human-services organizations that make application next spring.

Crawford County residents who have been working with the volunteers and staff of the United Way of Perry County for the last nine months and the United Way of Crawford County will be led by a volunteer advisory council of local residents with the assistance of the UWPC executive director and under the governance of the UWPC board of trustees and bylaws.

"I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with the residents of Crawford County. They are a very caring group of people and I think their efforts will result in great things for their community," said Rebecca Fenn, executive director of both United Ways.

The Crawford County volunteers have already run a countywide food drive for their local food pantries, developed an informational brochure that lists all assistance available in the county, have distributed the Family-Wize Discount Prescription Cards in many locations in the county, and conducted a Stuff the Bus school-supply drive for local children at the Paoli Wal-Mart in partnership with the United Way of South Central Indiana in Orange County.
