TELL CITY – Members of the Perry County Public Library Board gathered for a special meeting Sept. 26 to wrap-up September business.

As The News reported Sept. 17, a lack of quorum at the board’s regular meeting at the beginning of the month prevented members from voting on actions.

Library Director John Mundy began the meeting by asking for the board’s approval to rejoin the Indiana State Library Consortium for Public Internet Access.

“Basically this will give us our (e-rate) discount from the state,” he explained. “We get a 70-percent discount … We’re telling them we want to be a part of that again and save a lot of money.”

The board agreed and voted their approval.

Mundy also asked the board to declare a list of equipment surplus so the library could remove it from their lists.

Once the items – mostly older computer equipment and an old microfilm reader – are declared in surplus, the library is free to sell the equipment for a nominal fee or donate it. Board members approved the action.

Finally, wrapping up the meeting, Mundy informed members the hours at the branch in Cannelton would officially change to accommodate the story time hours.

One extra hour was added to Thursday hours so the branch will now be open from 1 to 7 p.m. Story time begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Board President Mickey Fischer asked if there was any type of tally being taken of those who visit the Cannelton branch.

Mundy said he is getting numbers from a door counter, but he’s also having staff members keep hand count of the number of patrons to get a better idea.

He hopes with more solid numbers, they will be able to adjust more hours to be more convenient for residents.

The board was to gather for its next meeting Oct. 3.
