LETTER: Why steal flowers from graves of others?

-A A +A

On Sept. 18, 2011, I laid my husband to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery. His monument was placed in November and the cradle and flowers arranged.

Already someone likes them also. His grave is visited several times a week but March 2 was special as it was our 59th wedding anniversary.

All was well, I went by the next day and found an empty monument. We have had things stolen from our yard in the past, his flag off of our porch being the most important.

He was a 21-year disabled veteran, so this was heart-wrenching to him. I wrote a letter to the paper and about three weeks later, someone threw it in our yard.

How low can a person go to steal off of a grave?

I hope when you lay your head down at night, you can sleep. If you needed flowers that badly, our family would have bought you some.

How do you think I felt when I visited his grave and found it empty of his flowers?
