LETTER: Become a Junior Achievement volunteer

Volunteer opportunities exist to assist Junior Achievement programs in Perry County in coming weeks.

Third-Grade Volunteer Opportunities

All third-grade classes at Perry Central and William Tell Elementary Schools will participate in the Junior Achievement Our Region program. This program provides an introduction to students about entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community. Students solve problems by weighing risks and rewards.

We are still working with both schools to schedule programs in the later spring, April and May. We anticipate having these schedules in place at the end of February. We will need three volunteers at Perry Central and four volunteers at William Tell.

Fifth-Grade Volunteer Opportunities

In the JA Our Nation Program, students get practical information about businesses’ need for individuals who can meet the demands of the job market, including high-growth, high-demand jobs.

Further, it introduces the concept of globalization of business as it relates to production materials and the need for students to be entrepreneurial in their thinking to meet the requirements of high-growth, high-demand careers worldwide. The opportunities for the spring semester are listed below. Perry Central participated in the fall semester

William Tell Elementary

• We will need four volunteers for programs in the later spring, likely April and May. We are still working with the school to determine the definite schedule. We anticipate having a definite schedule established at the end of February.

Eighth Grade Volunteer Opportunities

All eighth-grade classes at Perry Central will participate in the JA Economics for Success Program. This program provides students with provides practical information about personal finance and the importance of identifying education and career goals based on a student’s skills, interests, and values. It also demonstrates the economic benefits of staying in school.

The opportunities for the spring semester are listed below:

We will need volunteers to teach the program on Thursdays, March 7, through April 18, skipping the week of March 21 for spring break, at the following times:• One volunteer for a class from 9:44 to 10:32 a.m.
• One volunteer for a class from noon to 12:48 p.m.
• One volunteer for a class from 12:52 to 1:38 p.m.

High School Volunteer Opportunities

JA Success Skills: This program provides students with engaging, academically enriching and experiential learning sessions in work-readiness education and career perspectives. There are seven 45-minute sessions included in the program. Here are the spring opportunities for this program.

Tell City Junior-Senior High School

We are will need one volunteer to work with a class from 8 to 8:51 a.m. The teacher will work with the volunteer to schedule the definite dates.

JA Personal Finance: This program focuses on earning money, spending wisely through budgeting, saving and investing money, using credit cautiously and protecting one’s personal finances. There are five, 45-minute sessions included in the program. Here are the spring volunteer opportunities:

Perry Central Junior-Senior High School

We are seeking two volunteers for freshmen and sophomore classes. The teachers will work with each volunteer to set the definite schedule for the program. Here are the class times for each participating class.
• One volunteer for a class from 8:53 to 9:41 a.m.
• One volunteer for a class from 10:39 to 11:27 a.m.

Tell City Junior-Senior High School

We are seeking three volunteers for sophomore classes. The dates for the programs in Tell City will be on Tuesdays, March 5 through April 9, skipping March 19 for spring break. Here are the available class times:
• One volunteer for a class from 8 to 8:51 a.m.
• One volunteer for a class from 8:56 to 9:42 a.m.
• One volunteer for a class from 9:47 to 10:33 p.m.
