TELL CITY – American Legion Post 213 Women’s Auxiliary has named its 2014 delegates to Hoosier Girls State, which will be held June 22-28 at Trine University in Angola.

Delegates are Jennifer Trujillo from Tell City High School and Brennan Faith from Perry Central High School.

Trujillo is the daughter of Abel Trujillo and Brenda Trujillo of Tell City. Faith is the daughter of William Faith and Jana Faith from Mount Pleasant.

Alternates are Tell City High School’s Amity Lain, daughter of Jimmy Lain and Mandy Lain and Perry Central student Alicia Hartweck, daughter of Robert Hart-weck and Sallie Hartweck of rural Tell City.

The annual summer program is designed to educate the leaders of tomorrow in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. This session of government and practical politics is nonpartisan and nonpolitical.

Citizens begin their week-long adventure by registering to vote, where they receive an assignment to a mythical political party which at registration time had no political organization or party beliefs platform – all established by the delegates within three days into the session.

Delegates also file for an elected office on the city, county or state level.

They then conduct political campaigns complete with speeches and campaign materials.

Once elected to office, delegates are sworn in and perform the duties as described for their positions. Nonelected delegates are given appointments as well as encouraged to visit the offices of those elected to communicate their needs as citizens.
