Legacy clinches regular-season title in final game

TELL CITY – Legacy Financial scored four first-inning runs and held off a last-inning Cash Waggner rally to win 8-7 Thursday, clinching first place in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league in the league’s final regular-season game.

Legacy finished 8-3 and Cash Waggner finished second at 7-5.
Ohio Valley Gas also had five losses but Cash Waggner had the edge in their head-to-head meetings, winning three of the four games.
So one Ohio Valley Gas game that was rained out did not have to be made up and Wednesday’s game in which Ohio Valley Gas was leading Goffinet Homes 12-6 when halted by rain in the third inning was not completed.
Savannah Alvey went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs in Legacy’s clinching win over Cash Waggner Thursday.
Casey James also had two of Legacy’s six hits.
Maddie Briem made two nice catches in left field for Legacy.
Natalie Sanders and Mollie Ingle each went 2 for 2 with a double for Cash Waggner. Sanders drove in two runs.
Cash Waggner kept its title hopes alive Wednesday by beating Ohio Valley Gas 13-6 as Shannon Bryant and Monica Bartley each had three hits.
Bartley had a triple and a double and drove in four runs. Bryant had a double and scored three runs.
Brittany Brumfield added two doubles and Sanders and Ingle each also had two hits. Each of them drove in two runs.
Mary Steen hit a double and a single and drove in two runs for Ohio Valley Gas.
The league’s playoff tourney started with Thursday’s final game as Legacy edged Goffinet Homes 7-6.
With the score tied 6-6 when the time limit expired, it looked as if the game was headed to another inning. But Alvey tripled to score pool-player Bartley, who had walked, with the winning run.
Hellums hit a double and a single for Legacy and Tori Peter added a double.
Essa Roark hit a double for Goffinet Homes.
The tourney was scheduled to conclude Friday.
