First, I wanted to thank you for your editorial (Jan. 14) concerning the proposal to ban assault weapons. I know this is an important topic and deserves attention, but please let me voice my opinion.

I first ask what is an assault rifle? What makes a rifle an assault rifle? I own several guns, one of those is a .22 caliber rifle. It is semi automatic, has a detachable 10-round magazine and a scope. Sounds a lot like an assault rifle right?
