Kessinger wins twice in PAC track meet

FORT BRANCH - Tell City senior Kyle Kessinger won two sprints to lead Tell City to third place in the PAC boys track meet Thursday.

Forest Park won the meet with 142 points, four more than runner-up Heritage Hills. Tell City scored 88.

Kessinger ran the 100-meter dash in 11.12 seconds and the 400 in 51.22 for his two blue ribbons.

His 100 time is the fifth best on Tell City's all-time honor roll in that event and is just 10-hundredths of a second behind Davin Harpe's school record.

Kessinger's wins were the Marksmen's only first places.

But Zach Avallone broke his own Tell City school record as he placed second in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.85

He also took second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.87.

The Marksmen also placed second in the 3200 relay in 8:26.31, which Coach Chris Hollinden noted was their fastest time in eight years.

Jordan Alvey, Nick Bower, Spencer Sandage and Dalton Sweeney ran that race. Sweeney closed it with a personal best time of 2:01.85 for his two laps.

Jay Ziegelgruber placed third in the high jump after being seeded seventh. He cleared 5 feet, 10 inches.

Sandage took fourth in the 3200 in 10:26.06 and seventh in the 1600 in 4:54.80.

Sweeney placed fourth in the 800 in 2:07.29.

Patrick Swayne, Ryan Henrickson, Colton Thomas and Avallone placed third in the 1600 relay in 3:38.26.

Avallone was sixth in the long jump at 18 feet, 71?2 inches.

The Marksmen scored twice in each throwing event.

Daniel Scott was sixth in the discus with a 121-foot-7 toss and Tyler Henning was seventh at 120-11.

Cody Nash placed sixth in the shot put at 40 feet, 111?2 inches and Henning was eighth at 40-11?2.

Jerry Ammon, Ziegelgru-ber, Thomas and Nathan Ramsey placed fifth in the 400 relay in 46.67.

David McDaniel placed sixth in the 300 hurdles in 45.37.

Placing eighth were Swayne in the 400 in 55.03 and Alvey in the 3200 in 10:56.35.

Hollinden summed up his team's performance by saying, "We had an impressive showing but were still far away from the top."

Tell City, 19-9-1, will compete in the Jasper sectional Thursday. The field events will start at 5:30 p.m.
