K of C outhits Sports Acceleration for title

TELL CITY - The Knights of Columbus pounded out 10 hits to beat Sports Acceleration 12-2 to win the Tell City Major League (ages 11-12) baseball playoff tourney Monday.

Dakota Braunecker and Reese Miller each had two hits for K of C. Austin Paulin, Lukus Wardrip and Spenser Beard each added a double.

Derrick Snyder pitched a two-hitter for K of C, striking out nine and walking three in the five-inning game.

Rhett Baumeister drove in both Sports Acceleration runs with a first-inning double (after a walk and a hit batsman).

K of C scored four runs in the bottom of the second to build a 6-2 lead.

K of C added three more runs on only one infield hit the next inning to increase its lead.

A throwing error on a stolen-base attempt, a walk, a wild pitch, another throwing error, and a sacrifice fly to right field by Hunter Sandage contributed to those runs.

K of C beat Southern Indiana REC 7-4 in the first round of the double-elimination tourney and then beat Sports Acceleration 5-4 in the winners bracket final on a home run by Miller to end the game.

Sports Acceleration came through the losers bracket and beat K of C 6-4 in the first championship-round game to force the extra game.

K of C also won the league's regular-season title with an 11-5 record, repeating as champion in the regular season and tourney.

Sports Acceleration placed third in the regular season. Home Mutual took second place.
