James receives JVA national award

LEOPOLD—Perry Central junior Grace James is one of seven winners of the Junior Volleyball Association’s 2013 National AthLeader awards.
James was a setter for the Kiva 16 Red club team based in Louisville, Ky., that finished ninth in the 90-team open division at the AAU national tourney in Orlando, Fla., in June.
The award recognized “the Top JVA student athletes for academic success and leadership displayed through extracurricular activities and community service,” according to the JVA.
James is ranked first in her class with a 4.0 grade-point average and was inducted into the National Honor Society last spring.
She has received academic awards for world history, Algebra I and II, honors English language arts, biology and principals of biomedical engineering.  
She represented her school as a member of the English language arts academic team and as a Student Council member. She also participates in Pep Club and foreign clubs.
This fall she has been selected by her school guidance counselor to attend the Waupaca Manufacturing Reality Business Simulation Interactive Seminar.
Other extra-curricular activities include Key Club, Power of Youth, Youth Leadership Perry County and Purdue Extension Science Day volunteer.
Besides volleyball, she participates  in track, where she holds school records in the 800-meter run and 1600 relay.
