PERRY COUNTY - Twelve Perry County 4-H members have reached their 10th and final year in 4-H. Ten-year members include Alexandria Bashor, Samson Benjamin, Leighsa Carter, Krista Evrard, Kayla Hagedorn, Katie Hess, Ryan Kessens, Jake Paulin, Abigail Preher, April Sherman, Derek Suhrheinrich and Emily Tempel.
Alexandria Bashor
Bashor is a member of the Branchville Bunch 4-H Club and daughter of Dwaine and Martha Bashor. A Perry Central High School graduate, she will attend Purdue University to study biology with plans to go to veterinary school.
Throughout her 10 years of 4-H she has had projects go to the state fair in sewing, embroidery, counted cross-stitch and foods.
She also served as president of her club and treasurer of Juniors Leaders.
Outside of 4-H, she is a member of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, yearbook, Girl Scouts, German and key clubs and National Honor Society.
She was awarded the Presidential Bronze Volunteer Award, Volleyball Academic All-state Honorable Mention and Top Ten Senior Award.
April Sherman
Sherman is a member of the Twin Lakes 4-H Club and daughter of Tim and Cheryl Sherman. This fall she plans on attending Vincennes University-Jasper Campus and later transfer to Murray State University to obtain a bachelor's degree in horticulture.
During her 10 years of 4-H April has achieved many 4-H accomplishments including reserve grand champion, champion and reserve champion in cake decorating, champion ribbon in photography and was selected to attend the Washington D.C. Youth Tour.
Other than 4-H, she was a member of the PCHS color guard for two years and was captain for one year. She also participated on the dance team and Spanish club.
Leighsa Carter
Carter is a member of the Gatchel 4-H Club and daughter of Darryl and Rhonda Carter.
She is undecided about her future plans. Her accomplishments in 4-H include ribbons received for foods, create-a-mix and beef projects. Outside of 4-H, Carter was a member of the Perry Central FFA Chapter.
Ryan Kessens
Kessens is a member of the Twin Lakes 4-H Club and son of Ronnie and Barbara Kessens.
He plans to attend Indiana University to pursue a degree in biochemistry and pursue a career in alternate energies, pharmaceuticals or agriculture.
Some of his 4-H accomplishments include receiving grand-champion ribbons on his strawberry and potato projects. Outside of 4-H, he was on the baseball team, a member of the National Honor Society, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, English academic team and key club.
Katie Hess
Hess is a member of the Blazing Saddles 4-H Club and daughter of Michael and Mary Hess. A PCHS graduate, she plans to attend University of Southern Indiana this fall to study elementary education.
She also hopes to keep competing in horse shows. Her 4-H accomplishments include serving as club secretary and president. She was awarded Area III Horse Show grand champion and earned champion awards several times.
Outside of 4-H she was a member of student council, competes in horse shows and works as a baby-sitter.
Samson Benjamin
Benjamin is a member of the Blazing Saddles 4-H Club and son of Mike and June Benjamin. His future plans are to start training for a work trade.
Some of his 4-H accomplishments include earning grand-champion and reserve-grand-champion ribbons. Outside of 4-H he was on the PCHS wrestling, football, track, cross country and basketball teams.
Krista Evrard
Evrard is a member of the St. Marks 4-H Club and daughter of Gerald and Bertha Evrard. A PCHS graduate, she will attend Indiana University to pursue a degree in the medical field.
One of her greatest 4-H accomplishments was earning a grand-champion ribbon on her floriculture project. Outside of 4-H she enjoys spending time with family and friends and working at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari.
Kayla Hagedorn
Hagedorn is a member of the St. Marks 4-H Club and daughter of Andrew and Beth Hagedorn.
This fall she will attend Ivy Tech Community College in Evansville to major in nursing. Her 4-H accomplishments include earning Grand Champion ribbons in several projects.
Derek Suhrheinrich
Suhrheinrich is a member of the Branchville Bunch 4-H Club and son of Brian and Kathy Suhrheinrich. He plans on attending Nash-ville Auto-Diesel College. In the future he would like to work as a diesel mechanic.
During his 10 years of 4-H he earned reserve-grand-champion awards in shooting sports.
Outside of 4-H, he enjoys playing football, working on his truck, riding four-wheelers, hunting and fishing and hanging out with friends and family.
Emily Tempel
Tempel is a member of the Branchville Bunch 4-H Club and daughter of Patrick and Shirley Tempel. A PCHS graduate, she plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to major in ultrasound technology and minor in radiology. In her 10 years of 4-H she earned grand-champion ribbons for swine, llamas and showmanship.
Outside of 4-H she is a member of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, We the Youth of Perry County, Students Taking Action Not Drugs, FFA and she plays softball and volleyball.
Jake Paulin
Paulin is a member of the Twin Lakes 4-H Club and son of Jeff and Trina Paulin.
He plans to attend Vincennes University-Jasper Campus to major in criminal justice.
In the future he hopes to become a state police trooper.
Outside of 4-H, he ran track, played football and was a member of FFA at Perry Central.
Abigail Preher
Preher is a member of the Branchville Bunch 4-H Club and daughter of Robert and Earlene Preher.
In the fall she will attend the University of Southern Indiana to major in occupational therapy and minor in Spanish. During her 10 years of 4-H, she has earned grand-champion for steer and reserve-grand-champion award for a dog poster.
Outside of 4-H, Preher is involved with her church youth group. She graduated from Perry Central with honors and was accepted into the honors program at USI.
