Each year, members of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association are asked to keep a record of their volunteer hours and turn them in to the state office in Indianapolis. Throughout the state, more than one million hours were turned in. These are calculated by a figure of approximately $17 per hour to let legislators know that even though teachers are retired, they are still working without pay.
