TELL CITY—Evansville North used a stronger spiking attack to beat Tell City 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 in a volleyball season opener Monday.

“We didn’t attack,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes. “We were always on defense. And our communication was so bad it wasn’t even funny.”

She said one reason for the offense’s problems may have been “I just got this rotation two days ago. We’ve had several injuries.”

Freshman McKenzie Hayes led the Marksmen with five kills and eight assists.

Josalyn Ress added four kills and Miranda Zuelly had five assists. Elizabeth Kohnert made four blocks.

Kohnert, Leslie Poole and Hayes each served five points. Kohnert and Zuelly each served two aces.

Jamie Brinksneader made four digs.

Southridge won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-15.

Mackenzie Weyer made eight kills and two blocks for Tell City. Charissa Lahee had four assists and Stori Beard made six digs.

Tell City will host Southridge today beginning with a freshman match at 4:30 p.m.
