Huber sets 400 record as PC 2nd in invitational

PETERSBURG - Nick Huber won two individual events and Perry Central won four relays to place second in the Pike Central Relays boys track meet Saturday.

Heritage Hills nipped the Commodores by two points for first place in the seven-team meet.

Huber won the 400-meter dash in 50.66 seconds, breaking the school record of 51.53 set by Michael Ernst just eight days earlier.

Huber also won the 110 high hurdles in 15.09 seconds.

Ernst and Todd Gehlhau-sen ran on two winning relays.

They teamed with Reuben Schwartz and Corey Kimball to win the 3200 relay in 8:32.02.

T.J. Hall, Dakota Huff, Ernst and Gehlhausen won the 1600 medley relay (two 200s, a 400 and an 800) in 3:48.22.

"Todd ran a 2:06 800 - he ran real well," said Perry Central Coach Jason Barnett.

Jake Paulin was on two winning field event relays.

He and Andrew Muth took first in the discus with a combined distance of 245 feet, 6 inches.

Paulin and Robbie Piper won the shot put with a combined distance of 96 feet, 7 1/4 inches.

Hall and Mikey Wilkerson placed second in the long jump.

Ethan Wheatley, Wilkerson, D.J. Newton and Noah Gatwood took second in the freshman 400 relay in 49.36.

Huber and Zach Hagedorn placed third in the high jump relay at 11 feet, 4 inches.

Hagedorn, Huber, Schwartz and Ernst took third in the 1600 relay in 3:47.59. "At that point our runners were pretty much dead tired," said Barnett.

Kimball placed third in the 800 run in 2:10.

Perry Central is 24-4 on the season.
