FRENCH LICK—Perry Central hit 53.7 percent from the field to trounce Springs Valley 73-40 in PLAC boys basketball Friday.
The Commodores got several layups in transition off their 16 steals.
“In the first quarter I think we had real good energy on our press,” said Perry Central Coach Matt Carter. “We made several deflections. And we got some steals after they crossed halfcourt.”
Perry Central also made several layups in its half-court offense on baseline drives.
“We were real aggressive attacking the basket,” said Carter. “We got the ball and reversed it quickly.
“And the second half we were able to throw some skip passes (over the Blackhawks’ zone defense).”
Andrew Huber also made several nice drives into the middle of the lane. And when the defense converged on him, he passed to an open teammate for a short jump shot.
The Commodores also got four baskets directly off offensive rebounds.
Trent Schraner made two of them, including one on which he missed a three-point shot, grabbed the long rebound, and then hit a three-pointer.
The Commodores hit 7 of 14 three-point shots, including Michael Schwartz’s 4 for 4.
Schwartz led the Commodores with 14 points. Huber added 13, Austin LeClere 12, and Schraner, Dacota Schaad and Dillon Hubert nine apiece.
Huber had nine assists and four steals. Schaad, Nathan Schwartz and Alton Cummings each added three steals.
LeClere grabbed seven rebounds.
Perry Central improved to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in the PLAC. Springs Valley fell to 1-4 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
The Commodores will play Crawford County in the first round of the PSC Holiday Classic at Tell City Friday at 5:30 p.m.
